What is An Aura?
The aura is most easily described as the invisible energy field that surrounds every living being. It’s a vibrant, luminous field of energy that pulsates with the rhythm of your emotions, thoughts, and experiences. It is a reflection of you at a precise point in time. In this energy your physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness are on full display. As you practice and improve your aura reading skills you will be amazed by the profound insights you reveal in within your energetic state.
The concept of auras, or human energy fields, has a rich historical context and we find mention of the aura in most cultures and belief systems around the world. However, the interpretation of them, and what they mean, varies significantly, ranging from ancient spiritual practices and within world religions all the way to modern metaphysics and even scientific theory.
Historical Context and Origins
The modern, popularized concept of auras can be traced back to Charles Webster Leadbeater1https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aura_%28paranormal%29, a former priest of the Church of England and a member of the Theosophical Society. In the early 20th century, Leadbeater, influenced by his studies in India and his claims of clairvoyancy, introduced the notion of auras intertwined with the Tantric concept of chakras. His works, such as Man Visible and Invisible and The Inner Life, illustrated auras as emanations surrounding the human body, reflecting various stages of moral and spiritual evolution.
Eastern Philosophies
In Eastern traditions, particularly within Hinduism and Buddhism, your aura is perceived as a vital, energetic field surrounding the body, closely linked to the chakras, which are the main energy centers within your body. These energy fields are thought to reflect your spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. In eastern practices, meditation, yoga, and energy healing are commonly used to cleanse, balance, and strengthen the aura, promoting overall well-being and spiritual growth.
Western Beliefs
In Western cultures, the interpretation of auras is usually associated with intuitive abilities and the metaphysical. Your aura is seen as a manifestation of a person’s energetic state. The various colors and patterns are used to gain insights into your character, emotions, and health. This perspective has been embraced by various spiritual and New Age movements. From these movements we gain practices like aura reading, crystal healing, and Reiki. All centered on enhancing, healing, and interpreting the human energy field
Scientific Perspectives
While the concept of auras are steeped in spirituality and metaphysics, there is also scientific research that supports their existence. One scientific explanation of the aura is the electromagnetic field theory. According to this theory, the human body generates an electromagnetic field that can be detected and visualized. These fields can be captured on film and are seen to encompass the body and change as we interact with the environment.
The electromagnetic field theory suggests that auras are a result of the electrical activity generated by the body’s cells. This electrical activity creates vibrations and frequencies that extend beyond the physical body, forming the energy field. The theory is that your energy field interacts with the electromagnetic fields2Electromagnetic Field Theory of your surrounding environment, and the other living beings you come into contact with.
The Role of Bioenergetics
Another scientific approach to understanding auras is through the field of bioenergetics3Prakash, Shreya & Roy Chowdhury, Anindita & Gupta, Anshu. (2015). Monitoring the Human Health by Measuring the Biofield “Aura”: An Overview. Bioenergetics explores the energy processes within living organisms, including the human body. It focuses on how energy flows and influences your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. By studying the bioenergetic aspects of the human body, scientists aim to gain insight into the nature of auras and the impact they have on your life.
Importance of Understanding Your Energy Field
Understanding your aura is essential for spiritual, emotional, and physical balance. When you are able to perceive and interpret your subtle body energies, you can address any imbalance before they manifest as physical symptoms. With this awareness you not only grow your own understanding, you can also develop the way you interact with others. You deepen your empathy as you enhance your sensitivity to the energetic world around you.
It is important that you approach Aura reading with an open mind and a respectful attitude. Whether you see it as a metaphorical tool for psychological insight, or a literal energetic phenomenon, the practice paves your way for learning how to perceive, understand, and interpret the energies that radiate from you.
Preparing for Aura Reading
Preparing yourself for reading an aura is as much about creating the right external environment as it is about preparing internally—both mentally and emotionally. Here’s how you can set the stage for a successful session:
Cleansing and Centering Yourself
Before you begin, it’s crucial to cleanse and center your own energy. This can be achieved through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or a brief walk in nature. The goal is to clear your mind of distractions and ground your energy, ensuring that you are fully present and receptive. You might also consider practices like smudging with sage or palo santo to cleanse the physical space and your aura.
Creating a Conducive Environment
The space where the aura reading takes place should be calm, comfortable, and free from distractions. Soft lighting, soothing music, and a tidy environment can enhance the session’s effectiveness. Ensure the temperature is comfortable and consider having some natural elements like plants or a water fountain to promote a serene atmosphere.
Mental and Emotional Preparation
Aura reading requires an open, non-judgmental mindset. Clearing any preconceived notions or biases is important as they can cloud your intuition and the reading’s accuracy. Engage in practices that foster a positive, open-hearted approach, such as gratitude journaling or affirmations.
Protecting Your Energy
When engaging deeply with someone else’s energy field, it’s vital to protect your own energy. Visualize a shield of light around your aura, setting the intention that this shield will keep you safe from any negative or heavy energies you might encounter during the reading.
Relaxation Techniques for Your Customer
Helping your customer relax is essential for a successful reading. Offer them a comfortable seat, provide simple breathing exercises to follow, or guide them through a short meditation. A relaxed client is more likely to have a clear aura, which is easier to read.
Choosing the Right Method
There are several methods for aura reading, including intuitive readings, scanning with the hands, and aura photography. Consider your comfort level with each method and the needs of your client. Intuitive readings may offer deeper insights, while aura photography can provide a visual tool that helps clients see their energy field.
Dispelling Common Misconceptions
Finally, it’s helpful to address common misconceptions with your client. Make sure they understand what an aura reading can and cannot do. Clarify that it is a tool for insight and guidance rather than a psychic prediction of future events, helping set realistic expectations.
By preparing both yourself and your space, you create the optimal conditions for a meaningful and appropriately professional aura reading experience. This preparation not only facilitates a smoother session but also enhances the overall effectiveness and accuracy of the insights gained.
Viewing the aura is a skill that can be developed with practice and patience. The following is a step-by-step guide to help you begin sensing and interpreting auras effectively.
5 Techniques for Viewing the Aura
Before you begin, remember to trust your intuition. Initially, don’t concern yourself about seeing colors or shapes. Very few people see any colors at all for the first period of learning, But if you practice, you will see them. So let them come when they come. Forcing sight never works, It just stresses you and when you’re tense you wont have accuracy in your reading.
We are all individuals, and so your progress will be different to others. Some people can see and sense the aura in 3 or 4 sessions, some take weeks and some take considerably longer. The important aspect I want you to know is that the more you stress about not seeing the aura, the slower your progress will be. So be kind and assure your inner self that it will happen!
- Using Your Hands: This continues from step 1. Using the same technique start to move your hands slowly around the person’s body. Again without touching them. Sensing with your palms. What can you feel? Hot and cold spots? A tingling sensation over a certain area of the body?
- Visualization: If you already have well developed intuition then you can use visualization effectively. Simply close your eyes and imagine the person’s aura. What colors and shapes come to mind? And what do they mean?
- Using a Mirror: Sit with your back against a white background and facing a mirror. You can observe your own aura which can sometimes be easier. This also helps you practice the techniques and makes you more confident when viewing the aura for others.
- Aura Gazing: This is similar to the mirror but involves you giving an aura reading to someone else. Start by softening your gaze and focusing on the person without direct eye contact. You may find gently defocusing your eyes helps you perceive subtle energies. With practice, you will notice subtle shifts or colors appear around the body.
- Intuitive Viewing: This is what most people know to be aura reading. It uses your natural senses, which are usually a combination of what you see teamed with what you sense. This may be vivid colors and shapes or it may be feelings or emotional impressions you receive about the person. Remember you will be using your natural senses, so you may also hear, smell or physically sense something.
Viewing the Aura: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1 – Select your space.
Make sure you select an appropriate background. Try to find a place with a white or neutral-colored wall or backdrop. This will allow you to clearly observe the colors of your aura or someone else’s. It is important the space is in a relaxing and quiet setting that enables you to concentrate and focus without any disturbances.
Handy hints: If you are viewing your own aura, ensure you have a mirror as well. If you don’t have a mirror, you can read the aura around your hand by placing it in front of a white surface or over a piece of paper.
Step 2 – Lighting Your Space
Your space preferably has dim light. Not dark but dim. Think dusk, when it is almost dark but still light enough to see objects and expressions clearly. Natural light is preferable as some light bulbs cast a very yellow light which may cause problems with the colors. It will make red look like orange, and blue look like green. If you don’t have natural light, opt for candles.
Step 3 – Viewing Your Subject
To start your aura reading seat your subject, or take a seat and look into a mirror if you are the subject. Start by softening your gaze, and relaxing your eyes. Pick a spot to place your attention, with your focus a few centimeters beyond the subject.
Focus gently on this space for 30-60 seconds and let your eyes fall a little out of focus. Sense what appears in your peripheral vision. You will start to see a haze appear around the edges. It usually begins as a transparent or white light. After a short time, this will start to expand and eventually form the colors of the aura.
Handy hints: When you first start, focus on a small area. It may help to focus your aura reading around the subject’s head, using their forehead as your focal point.
If you are trying to read your own aura, you can focus at the same area of the your head and shoulders. Or you can gaze at the tips of your fingers against white paper. In this case, use the fingernail as your focal point.
Step 4 – Viewing Your Aura
Step 4 is to start using your energy field to sense and interact with your subjects energy field. Stand behind someone and hold your hands at their ear level. One either side of the head and palms facing in. When you begin have them at shoulder width, and then very slowly bring them towards the person.
Stop as soon as you sense a any new sensation on your palms. Remember you are not touching the person, you are physically and psychically feeling for subtle changes in temperature, sensation or thought.
Repeat this a few times. As many as you feel is correct. As soon as you feel the etheric layer stop. Once you sense the etheric, start moving your hands around the exterior of the body. In time you will see a color association with these spots which will help you interpret meaning.
Step 5 – Practicing Aura Reading
Practice regularly on yourself and others. Create a routine, maybe set time to observe your aura in the mirror daily. You can also practice by asking friends or family members if you can read their aura The more time you spend practicing the better. When you are ready you should also begin sharing with others. Tell them what you see and also any thoughts and feelings that arise.
Now start to form a picture. What does this color mean? Does it make sense to show up in this place on the body? What feelings where associated? When you start sharing your intuitive thoughts and interpretations you can get instant feedback. This will boost your confidence as you will see them recognize and understand your interpretation. The feedback you can get from others will help improve your skills.
