We know that we encounter toxins in our environment every day of our lives. There is little we can do to avoid them; however, we can prevent them from causing harm by using essential antioxidants to prevent disease. The reality is that as long as we are alive, toxins of various forms will find their way into our bodies. Some of these toxins are man-made, while others are natural.
In this post, you will learn which foods to add to your diet to rid your body of toxins and enhance your natural health. In fact, it is very easy. By adding essential antioxidants to our diet, we can prevent disease and promote health!
Which Essential Antioxidants Will Help Prevent Disease and Promote Good Health Naturally?
Most toxins come from our environment: the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. The majority of these toxins are not dangerous to us in small quantities. However, to maintain optimal health, we need to ensure we regularly flush and clear them from our system. The buildup of toxins over time impacts our health and can lead to disease.
We definitely do not want toxins to stay in our system. Luckily for us there are plenty of essential antioxidant rich foods that are readily available and naturally detoxify our systems.
Antioxidant rich foods:
Most of us, due to busy lifestyles and the challenge of maintaining work-life balance, do not consume a properly balanced natural diet. The issue is that if we do not maintain a healthy, balanced diet, we fail to consume the essential antioxidants needed for proper health.
The most widely known antioxidants are those that slow the aging process. These antioxidants help purify our bodies and promote optimal bodily functions. It is important to recognize when our daily diet is lacking and to supplement it by adding these essential antioxidants. This will encourage good health and help prevent serious diseases.
Foods That Contain Essential Antioxidants to Prevent Disease.
Foods that contain natural antioxidants are the easiest way to include them in our diet. Typically, plant foods such as fruits, nuts, and grains are the best sources of essential antioxidants. They are also delicious. The following are recommended sources of antioxidants:
Berries:
The very best berries are those that contain the highest and purest forms of natural antioxidants: blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cranberries, and strawberries. These tasty morsels can be enjoyed in various ways: eat them whole, drink their juices, or add them to delicious baked dishes and desserts.
It is vital that when eating whole fruits we eat not only the flesh but also the skin. The skin of the fruit is where the majority of essential nutrients are found.
Healthy Natured
The easiest way to identify antioxidant-rich berries is by their color. Dark, rich colors such as red, blue, and black are telltale signs that they are naturally high in antioxidants.
Fruits:
Similar in their natural benefits to berries, there are many delicious fruits that contain antioxidants. Fruit varieties to look for are those that allow you to eat the flesh and skin. Examples include:
- apples,
- cherries,
- red and green pears,
- kiwis, (yes you can eat kiwi skin)
- fresh and dried plums,
Other fruit high in essential antioxidants that we recommend (but only for the flesh) are:
- avocados
- pineapple,
- oranges.
Beverages:
Using fruits, vegetables, and berries in smoothies or drinks is a delicious way to get your daily dose of essential antioxidants, which can do wonders for the body. These drinks can be consumed once or twice a day for optimal results. Examples of these drinks include:
- Kale, Spinach and Pear Smoothie
- Antioxidant Nutrient Boost Smoothie

Adding nuts to your diet can provide your body with a boost of natural protein and other essential nutrients. All nuts are beneficial, but we recommend walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, almonds, and pecans.
Vegetables:
It will come as no surprise that many vegetables contain significant amounts of naturally occurring antioxidants. Eating daily servings of vegetables (the best being artichokes, potatoes with skin, broccoli, red cabbage, and spinach) provides your system with an additional boost of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Dessert:
Now for the sweet tooth: some great news! Forget everything negative you may have heard about desserts. As it turns out, some dessert ingredients are filled with essential antioxidants. The best of all is delicious dark chocolate. Dark, cocoa-rich chocolate drinks, bars, and snacks are a sweet way to add natural antioxidants to your diet. We, of course, advise moderation!
